Causes of milk fever

Milk fever symptoms typically develop rapidly and progress through three stages:

  • Stage 1: mild signs such as restlessness, muscle tremors, and lack of appetite.
  • Stage 2: moderate symptoms including weakness, unsteady gait, sternal recumbency (lying on the chest), and cold extremities.
  • Stage 3: severe signs with lateral recumbency (lying on the side), inability to stand, coma, and potentially death if untreated.
